“His nonjudgmental and accepting manner let me feel safe to explore inner terrain that I could not traverse alone. He was an invaluable ally in my healing, full of compassion and insights… often delivered via an irreverent sense of humor.”
Psychotherapy Client, Northampton
My education and my experience have led me to greatly respect the unconscious and its many manifestations. This translates into listening to what is spoken, what is unspoken, and even to what may be unspeakable — and also to what is expressed as images in dreams, day-dreams, and creative expressions. In addition, when appropriate, I integrate neurological insights and trauma-healing techniques from current somatic therapies.
I work both with clients whose conditions used to be described as neuroses (a poor ability to adapt to or cope with one’s familial, social, or work environments, an inability to change one’s established life patterns, and/or the general inability to develop a richer and more satisfying life), as well as with those suffering from more deeply rooted psychological conditions (complex PTSD, the personality disorders), and with some whose conditions, like bipolar disorder, involve particularly entwined psychological and physiological factors.
I am also available for explorations of the psyche that could perhaps be called elective; for work that is driven less by a desire to reduce personal suffering and more by a desire to maximize joy and creativity, and to probe the mysteries of life.
